View all responses
You don’t need a gym, expensive equipment, or a complicated workout plan to get moving. A few simple exercises at home can help improve strength, mobility, balance, and overall fitness.
Before you begin, spend a few minutes warming up to gently prepare your body.
Start With a Gentle Warm-Up
Try 3–5 minutes of easy movement:
- Walk slowly around the room.
- Roll your shoulders forward and backward.
- Gently swing your arms.
- March slowly in place.
- Move your ankles and wrists through comfortable circles.
Keep the movements relaxed. The goal is simply to get your body moving, not to tire yourself out.
Once you feel comfortably warmed up, try these five simple exercises.
1. Squats
Squats work your legs and glutes while also engaging your core.
Try: 10–15 repetitions × 2 sets.
2. Wall Push-Ups
Wall push-ups are a beginner-friendly alternative to traditional push-ups.
Try: 10–15 repetitions × 2 sets.
3. Glute Bridges
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips slowly, squeeze your glutes gently, then lower them with control.
Try: 10–15 repetitions × 2 sets.
4. Marching in Place
Stand comfortably and march on the spot while moving your arms naturally. Keep the pace comfortable and increase it slightly if it feels good.
Try: 2–5 minutes.
5. Standing Calf Raises
Hold a sturdy chair or wall for balance. Slowly rise onto your toes, pause briefly, and lower your heels back down.
Try: 15–20 repetitions × 2 sets.
Finish With a Gentle Cool-Down
After exercising, spend another 2–3 minutes walking slowly and taking comfortable breaths. You can also gently stretch your calves, thighs, shoulders, and arms without forcing the movement.
Start Small
If you’re new to exercise, you don’t need to complete a long workout. Start with 5–10 minutes and gradually increase your activity as you become more comfortable.
The best home workout is often the one you can actually stick with.
Use comfortable movements and proper form. Stop if you experience pain, dizziness, or unusual shortness of breath. If you have a medical condition or are unsure whether these exercises are appropriate for you, check with a healthcare professional first.
