Story Brief (No Spoilers) :

The novel unfolds over a single day, June 16, 1904, in Dublin, Ireland, tracing the inner lives and chance encounters of three unforgettable characters. We move from morning to night through the thoughts, memories, and quiet struggles of Leopold Bloom, a gentle and lonely advertising agent; Stephen Dedalus, a young writer and teacher searching for meaning; and Molly Bloom, Bloom’s passionate and restless wife. Though very little seems to happen on the surface, an entire universe of emotion and reflection takes place within them.

My Experience with Book :

Below is powered by solely my experience with book, zero sponsorship, zero bribe, not even a bookmark involved (forget about free copy of book).

I finished the book feeling deeply perplexed. I never truly found my rhythm with the story, and at no point did I feel fully drawn into its world. In fact, reading this new translation left me with the strange sense that something essential had been lost, especially in passages I remembered vividly from the older version.

What troubles me most is that I cannot clearly identify the source of my disappointment. Was it a lack of understanding on my part? Or did the translation itself burden the text with unnecessary pomp, dulling the subtle artistry of the original? I began to question whether the novel’s reputation had raised my expectations beyond what any version could satisfy.

Perhaps the praise surrounding this work shaped my hopes too strongly. Whatever the reason, I remain unable to name the exact cause of my reaction. Only one thing is certain: this novel left me disappointed.
